DupliColor Wheel Paint: For Frame was created by Old Man Rock
Hey all,

In making some fabrication & adjustments (tank, seat & tail back 1") for increased turn radius (kz900 w/ ZX636 front end) I found my frame paint was chipping rather easily.

I had used PJ1 Frame Paint... Not knocking the paint, for it just didn't stick to the primer for which I believe to be my fault in in-proper prep! Same time, has to go!

With this in mind, hmmm, then I remembered reading about the chipping resistance and they do have it in flat black. So I figured what the hell, give it a shot.

I had to cut and weld on the side kick stand for it was too long for the new setup. The bike just didn't lean far enough where a strong wind may blow it over...

Then I etched prime and painted with the Wheel paint. Let it sit a few days then give it the impact test. I'm actually surprised where it didn't chip. I even used a sharp edge of a screw driver.

Sure it penetrated to the primer but what paint or powder coat for that matter wouldn't do the same. It just didn't chip! :woohoo:

Here we go, now to strip the old and put on the new....

Just thought I'd share. If someone else has used this product please share your results.

I haven't used it, yet, but that's what I was considering. My thinking was that if it's made for wheels, it might have some built-in toughness. Let us know what your experience turns out to be. Thanks!:)

So far so good.... Kick stand still holding up to impact...Seems to be getting a little tougher with cure time.

I had completely wire wheeled the frame to bare metal, etch primer and painted the frame. Dries to a slight gloss over flat black (light sheen).

NOTE: Can states primer then 400 grit then paint. I tried this and didn't get the same results as primer, wait the 30 minutes then paint (also on the can)!
It didn't actually chip but it didn't adhere to the primer the same as the latter...

I'm going to let it sit for a couple of days to cure then start putting her back together. In installing the engine with the PJ1 product, a couple of bumps/scrapes and she chipped...

I'll post the results, good or bad as always. Not ashamed to admit my ignorance at times... I know, I know, powder coat but I've already dumped a substantial amount of $$$ into this project and I still need to get the head done, tires, speedometer, electronic ignition and headlight. Also I may have some more fabrication to do on the back end (buffed under side and tire hugger) mounting...

So every dime saved at this point is a must (wifey poo getting suspicious on the $$$ spent)...DOH!

Run old man Run...
