Just curious, when you're satisfied that the dent is gone how do you clean off the glue? Ed

The tank looks good. Who cares there's a dent. You can either have a nice looking tank with dent, or a piece of crap repaint without. Dent is preferable.

The high temperature hot glue will come off with the dowell and if any stays on the tank it will peel off without leaving a mark. I used a 1" piece of nylon rod but I would bet you could use wood. The trick is the rocking motion, if you pull straight out it dosen't work as well. You need steadly increasing pressure untill is pops off. If you pull realy hard right away the glue will let got and not move the metal. Add force little by little until you feel the metal yield and try to hold that force. You would be surprised how well that method works.
