900/1000 A tank on LTD was created by zombiescustoms
Will a regular 900/1000 tank drop on a 79 1000 ltd frame, from my recollection the frames are the same right?, I like the look of the standard tanks better, and I think they are a little larger to boot. thanks in advance!

Some will physically fit but not without issues.
Example, I have a KZ1000-A2 tank on my KZ900-A4. How I found this out is in researching the petcocks via the link below.
When I got this bike the tank had severe damaged from the forks hitting it. Now the PO had also broken the turn stops so hard to say exactly what is what.
You may have to move your tank and seat back a little to get it all to fit with out your forks hitting the tank. This may be required so your seat so it closes and latches properly as well.
In following the link, you can obtain OEM part numbers for matching... Depending on models and years, some do, some don't...

Good luck,

There are no issues. It will fit right on and will look much better than that LTD tank. Hopefully the picture of the LTD I put together for a friend will post so you can see for yourself.
