That looks like a Spectre. Maybe repaint the red but for sure don't repaint the lower fork tubes red

Me personally, not for red especially as mentioned on the forks.
Prime Black.... You already have a lot of black on this bike (frame, engine, head light, seat etc...) so flat black would be ok to hide the red but other than that  does nothing if that's a concern.
Of course, this is until you decide what you're looking to accomplish regarding your paint theme. Until then, I'd just strip the tank, prep it and stick with old gray primer. At least this way, others will know what your planning and won't give it another thought.
Hell, at least with gray, you'd be able to find it in the dark.

I would prime it flat black but put something reflective or bright on it. Mine is flat black except for the tail, and everyone and there mother try to hit me and claim they "can't see it"
I know it would not be any fun if it was easy, but does it have to be this much fun?

The bike already has a lot of black on it. I wouldn't add more. I would go red again probably or another lightish color.

flat black sounds good to me. mine is currently a shitty flat black. soon will be prepped and then flat black again. and I'm powder coating the wheels red with white walls and getting red pin striping. it's going to be sweet. good luck with the decision.

This your chance to personalize your bike, red No Flat black no. Unless your planing a orginal restore. Go wild Burnt Orange with black and red pinstripes, just make it your own.

Makes me think of Ketchup.....
Sleep on the thought a few more days.
Go back to blank canvas primer black.
Check out some other bike colors via the pics in the gallery.
