How does a viper fairing perform, or does it just look goofy?

Hi there, I'm thinking about getting one of those viper fairings for my KZ400. I'm hoping it will hide the faded/chipped/dented clocks and the faded/chipped/dented headlight. What is your experience, if any, with this style of fairing? Does it really deflect any wind or does it just channel it right into your chest and face? Does it rattle a lot?

I did a forum search and didn't really come up with any answers.

I've got a used one you can have if you pay shipping and can wait for a week or so for me to get it. The sides were cut a little I think. Let me know.

I second the request for performance reviews... I have benn considering one of those for my 650, but wonder how well they work.

I've been running with one of those fairings on my KZ650 for the past few years.

Due to it's overall size and how the windscreen is angled, it doesn't deflect all of the wind if sitting in a normal riding position (I'm 5' 11" ), but it does help take the brunt of it away.

I shaved my seat down in the drivers area similar to a Corbin seat, so I have the option of sliding my boney rump back and tucking in completely/comfortably behind the screen.

With the crappy "universal" mounting brackets supplied with those fairings, it will rattle and flex under heavier gusts. But fabbing up more sturdy brackets like others have done is fairly easy and cheap.

I had one on my 750 and on my 900 (alternated it) and i liked it. it hid my not so great looking cluster and light bucket pretty well.
Now i run a barn door fairing.

I've put these on a couple of different makes of bike...1) don't expect it to block much wind unless you squat behind it...2)if you make some rubber washers or get them at home depot it won't rattle, I used an old innertube and put pieces between any contact point and between washer and mounting brackets...they trim to fit easily and absorb vibration.

I had one years ago and if I remember right I had to trim it around the gauges.

I had one years ago on my Z-1 and I really liked it...but when you're 20 you like to 'tuck in' for obvious reasons. I diverted air off my chest, but you had to tuck in to stay out of the air. I like the looks of it...sort of quasi-mad-max...but that's subjective. I think it'd be too big for a KZ400 asthetically, but who am I to judge. As noted above, it looks 'right' on a KZ650.

Verdict = very good
