fiberglass on abs?
13 Apr 2008 20:59
Hey guys! This may be a dumb question, but I have been modifying a fairing for my 650. I had to cut a section out to clear my guages, and now I am trying to fabricate on a mounting lip for the windshield, which will be made from what's left of the windshield off my Voyager. All the pieces are made of black ABS and I got them to fit together pretty close then used woven fiberglass mat to tie them together.
After reading KZCSI's article "plastic repair" I wonder if the two part epoxy resin will stick to the ABS. I did scuff it very deep with 60 grit paper and cleaned it before beginning, but should I try to chip that off and go with the pipe glue?
I don't have a digital camera or I would post a pic of what I'm doing.

Welding abs is what i did, you need a hot air gun with a reducer and some abs strips. you would need to clamp your pieces together then heat for 5 seconds then using gloves push the abs repair strips onto the join then sand back. It takes a bit of getting used too, so practice on some scrap, cheersB)

Sounds like the glass is not a good idea, so I guess my next question would be how to get it off without just waiting for a windshield to land in my lap?
