Here was one of my winter projects. i was going to wait till it was 100% complete but i may have to shelve the other half for a bit so... this is what i did. i purchased three Pelican 1500's off ebay a couple months ago. if you do not know what a pelican is, they are a heavy duty plastic case, used mainly for photography and other electronic gear. they are water proof and darn near indestructable. they are pretty expensive new, mine were about 100 dollars each new. the ones i got came from a oil company in Texas, they were very dirty with a few holes drilled in them, but they were 10 dollars each. my mission was to build a rack that was spinley but strong. the bags need to come off fairly easily and they need to be solid enough not to wobble around. i am using the passenger peg, upper shock and the tail light bracket for mounting.
first picture is the upper shock mount i machined.

side view in progress. i am a bit OCD about lines being close to straight. i have seen to many UJM's with ammo boxes mounted with threaded rods that i want this one right.

alright the upper frame is done, i just completed the bottom part. Mitered corners, doubled checked for straightness, gusseted and welded.

and here is the back side of the pelican with the upper mounts i machined to day. they will hook over at the top and be bolted at the bottom. the pelicans were safety orange when i got them and am still finishing them. they will be flat black when done.

and this one is the bag sitting in place. there will be a rear support running from side to side, being bolted in the middle of the tail light mount. the rear turn signals will need to be relocated. i am not sure were they will go yet, i am thinking of a surface mount light, mounted to the rear support bar. but i am not sure yet.

Great work. It has inspired me to do something of the sort for my 650.

That is so cool. I get way excited about utilitarian stuff. Looks like you nailed it man. Sleek, resourceful, and nothin' but business.

ok i made the mount for the other side, basically mirrored the left side for the right side. the gas ran out for the wire feed, so most of it is brazed together, so i will see how well it handles the vibrations. i guess it is somewhat rubber mounted cause the passenger pegs are rubber mounted on the B's
hope the picture comes through, first post on the new forum :)

I got to thinking about this... You know, the U.K. 750 twins had the turn signals mounted right off the sides of the taillight (I assume due to their differing regulations). I wonder if you could get a hold of one of the U.K. brackets and see if your stock lights mount cleanly?
