looking for cover...
13 Dec 2007 04:19
Hey all,
Anyone have an extra left side cover for my 77 650B?
I need the one that has the emblem inset into the cover.
This is the only piece left to the puzzle.
I bought one from ebay, but it turned out to be the one with
the surface mount emblem style.
It looked OK, but it didn't feel right. Ya know what I mean?
So I sold it in hopes of finding another. No luck so far...

These covers are still kind of a mystery. Both my 77s have covers that are not recessed. Colors were red or green in 77. I also have 2 1978 KZ650B in blue. One is recessed, the other is not which is rather strange.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I looked at the one from AU..spendy and I would imagine freight is not cheap either.
It is the one I need though, and the right color.
I can;t figure out the side panel puzzle either. The right side that
I have was originally reddish-orange. One other thing I've noticed is the KZ is smaller than the 650 on the emblem when it is inset.
The KZ and 650 are the same height on the surface mounted emblem..
Maybe I have not seen enough to be absolutely sure, but it seems that way to me.
gorack, thanks for the offer but I need one with the tabs intact as I have no way of repairing yours as I don't have any extra panels to use for the repair.
Ron, I thought the inset was indicitive of the 77's only?? I think both will interchange to 80 or 81?
My 650 was originally green (1st layer on the tank).
Thanks for taking interest on this and I would appreciate if ya hear anything to let me know.
I would get pics of the right side but it is about 5 degrees outside and I don't want to crack it pulling it off.
Stuff gets a bit brittle around here when it gets this cold.
Thanks again

The 77-78 KZ650B and C whether the emblem was inset or not used the same emblem which had the smaller kz650 type lettering. In 1979 they went to the KZ650 type lettering so you can use the same smaller kz650 emblem on either type cover.
