Well why didn't you just say so:laugh: Pull out the torch a few pounds of "Metalset" epoxy, some chewing gum, some bailing wire, and we are heading in the right dirrection. One thing I can tell you fore sure is that; your engine sure wont get rained on:silly:.And you will have to shorten your seat a bit in the front:huh: You'll be all set.

See that! The benefits just never end! I can pull over on the side of the road during a rain storm and hang out under the tank until it passes! Bonus!
I just figure if a guy likes it, let him have at it. I've put GPz1100 tanks on 'J' bikes and there was a little work to be done...just interested in seeing what the results are.
Who knows, it might turn out nice. :silly:

WHOA! WHOA! WHOA! I have a kz 1300 and am going to paint it like an ELR. I am thinking about buying the ELR sticker kit but am worried about fitment on a 1300 tank and don't want to waste my money. If the side of the tank on an ELR and a 1300 are the same I am good to go, if not I will have them painted on. I am in no way trying to fit a 1300 tank on something else---that thing is HUGE!!!

Once Again; The question is WHY?
The GPZ tank has the same volume and will fit right on the bike. I just tryed to fit my 1300 tank on my 1000 and it would take some work to do so.

I'll get pics posted! BTW, Are you in Salina?
For everybody else... Kansas (along with the Dakotas, Nebraska, Texas, NM, Wyoming, Montana, etc.) is a darned good reason for putting as big a tank on your bike as possible. A 250-300 mile ONE WAY trip is REALLY common, and there are gas stations who's gas I WOULDN'T put in my bike, even though I'm OK with wizzing in their Jon. A tank that gives you the chance to choose whose gas you're going to use is nice.
Well, actually I would be interested in how to make a 1300 tank fit on a 1000; so, for those of you with wisdom of experience: please share.
Thanks,

Re: kz 1300 tank vs kz 1000 tank
23 Feb 2008 20:09
Ummm, there's those here who can rattle off motorcycle model designations like they were the kids' birthdays, but not me. But there were several different KZ1000 models. Mother Kaw sold (for instance) three different KZ1000a models in 1979, a1, a2, and a3. I think it was the a3 that had a blocky gas tank that looked like the ELR and GPz tanks, the other two (a1 and a2) had a rounded tank. The blocky KZ1000 tanks were 5.1 gallons, the rounded ones were 3.5. So, yeah, yours isn't 5.1, I was just talking about the ones that could conceivably be used for an ELR clone. OK?
