2M4Dale,
This is your lucky day. I work at a very large plating shop here in Minnesota. We use the Show Chrome process, which is nickel strike, copper, semi-bright, bright, and chrome. If you want, send me pics of what you want done. I can work something out with the shop to make this economical for you. One question though, is that Kawi emblem cast, aluminum, or steel?

my favorite plating shop here in omaha that does triple plating burned to the ground last fall with several mountains of my stuff sitting in it:blink:  :( :S   really knocked the ambition right out of me,but ive been getting motivated here again .can you post a name and phone number for the shop you work at so i can get a price list from them?thanksB)

OK ... for starters .... Yes, everything is steel. I have planned to buff off any sharp edges. Once welding is finished I will get that all done. The side plates will come to you pretty much ready to chrome (I think) ... the sissy bar itself will probrably still need work.

Thanks in advance for all your help with this project !!!

Now for a little rant !!!

My Harley buddies are all saying ... why bother ... it's just a Jap bike ... or why don't you just buy this crap online or from the KAW dealer ... I think they're all jaded .... if you can dream it up it's already available for your Harley ... from Harley ... custom crap for our old KZ's or any vintage Jap bike for that matter simply isn't available. I have added custom touches to many vehicles in the past ... this old LTD is a very nice old bike ... it's paid for ... I'm gonna make it mine and make it so it's not like yours or his or hers !!! Isn't that what "custom" means ???

Post edited by: 2M4Dale, at: 2008/01/06 10:50

its because most of the junk they bolt on their bikes comes from a catalog and their idea of matal finishing usually involves dumping large quantities of bondo over everything and carving it out,ya cant plate bondo!:P

Plummen,
Our shop is primarily a truck bumper plating shop. Our secondary plating is of the old car bumpers and bumper guards. I am getting Dale's stuff done as if they are for my bikes. So we really don't have "price lists" for anything other than bumpers. Employees are allowed to get personal items done periodically. I am using my employee plating pricing to help Dale out, so I am limited as to how much I can get done. I wish I had a better answer for you.

Dale, I'm not much on sissy bars, but I really like the one you have created. Those guys (posers) would'nt recognize a creative impulse if it bit them on the ass. What you've done is true cutom work! It expresses exactly what you wanted. I can't wait to see it finished up and polished. I might be in the process of changing my opinion on sissy bars. :) Thanks for the up-date!

Thanks PLUMMEN and KZErider and especially rdgrnr for the support ! I'm really not all that hopped up for a sissy bar on my bike either .... it's for my wife and daughters. But if I gotta have one .... it's gotta be cool. I think it will be ! And I didn't order it from J&P Cycles ...... nuff said. B)

OH Boy, Oh Boy, Oh Boy .... rdgrnr has my stuff done and I should be getting it back from chrome in a few days ... can't wait !!!! I'll post pics !!!

Thanks Dave for the final metal work and chroming.

Would also like to thank a few more of my "helpers". Mike (my boss) for letting me have some machine time and some of the raw materials I used, Scott for burning out the plates and welding everything up, and Jeff for the surface grind job.

Where would any of us be without our friends ???
