Fairing
17 Aug 2007 04:43
Hello..
This is my first post as I'm new to kzrider.
Anyway I have a 81 kz 550A and I was wondering if it would be possible to mount a gpz550 fairing or after market cafe racer style fairing to my bike?

It is possible...look at an exploded diagram of the KZ550D1 to see how the fairing mounts...GPz550 fairings appear regularly on eBay...expect to pay less than US$50.00 in decent shape. You may have to fabricate mounts/brackets on the handlebars/headlight area. The fairing should also come with a windscreen...when inspecting on eBay, make sure that the mounting hardware comes with the fairing (it also helps hold the windscreen to the fairing body). Also, be aware that the early model GPz550 is different (slightly smaller with slightly different mount position) than the early model GPz750/1100 fairing...some folks on eBay will tell you they are the same. They are wrong.

Gonna throw my 2 cents in here given i own an early GPz. The Fairing mounts to the two bolts on the upper part of the triple tree (the clamp bolts) and it also bolts to the underside of the lower half of the triple tree. Also keep in mind the GPz550 has a rectangular headlight while if im not mistaken the GPz750 has a round headlight.
