New Parts + Rattlecan Paintjob
16 Jun 2007 12:07
So my "wrong" muffler/footpeg bracket showed up this week. Luckily, the holes lined up with the frame, although the part itself is shaped a little differently, so more of the frame shows now than it did before. I repainted the brackets from both sides of the bike with RustOleum metallic blue and several coats of clear, touched up the newly-showing frame parts with black, and I also painted the brake pedal... why not? I may throw some rubberizer on it or something where my boots rest so it doesn't get too nasty, but only if I really care. I don't think it came out too badly, all things considered!
Before-Before:
BEFORE: (Before clearcoat and touching up the now-showing frame parts with black)
AFTER:
Left Side:
Parts baking in the sun (side covers shown for color comparison):

Wow, that came out looking really nice!
If you really wanted to go gung-ho and dress it up a little, you could find a round chromed cap to place over the swingarm pivot bracket.
A local bolt and fastener specialty store near me carries various sizes of them, and is where I got the caps ($1.50 each) to replace the missing ones instead of paying top-dollar for the OEM caps at a Kawi stealership.

Ask, and ye shall receive.
The cap is just a suggestion. It's your bike and you are the only one who needs to be happy with it, right.

I like the idea. I have no idea where I'd find a "local bolt and fastener speciality store" though. I'll have to do some googleing.
I've been looking for some chrome caps for the black bolts that I just replaced, but I am having incredible trouble finding them in 12mm sizes! The best I can find is 1/2inch which it one size too big. ARGH stupid metric
edit: on kawi-dealer caps: this particular bike didn't have caps, it apparently has plastic covers over a hole in the original part I replaced. I think you can see it in my first photo, it's just a black plastic fitting.
