Well its been a couple of weeks.
I've clear coated onto my matt black and orange. I would have preferred keeping it matt but dont think it would have lasted long and I couldnt afford matt lacquer anyhows.
So I clear coated with a standard lacquer from my local auto DIY store.
The matt black now looks silky on the plastics, but the tank looks a little like that metalic flake paint that you can get.
I rubbed back with 800 and 1200 wet and dry then used Autoglym Paint restorer and Crystal glo acrylic bike polish to finish. It could do with another couple of coats of polish but I'd rather be riding.
The final finish isn't that great but its good enough for me for my first attempt. See if you can see the mistake with the overhead shot along its length.
Heres a few pics....

Nates vintage bike axiom: Riding is the reward for time spent wrenching.
Murphys corollary: Wrenching is the result of time spent riding.

I see your mistake but its not that bad. Just gotta be more careful when you mask the stripe on the tank. Fins some common spots to measure from. I hope thats what your talking about.

Yep, I should have maybe marked a midline first, but I was kinda excited and just jumped in with both feet first.
I like the paintwork but the off centre stripes are starting to bug me!
