what tank can I get?

Ok guys I am looking for a tank to fit my 79 KZ650. I was wondering if any other years would fit it or anyther models. I found one for a 650sr but I dont know the differences between the 650b,c,sr or anyother models. So if any of these models would work please let me know...thanks

For sure the 1977-79 B and C will fit. Also the 78-79 SR tank will fit, but is a different shape of course. Those are all I know as I've tried them first hand.

IIRC, the '80 KZ650-F1 "Classic" also fits perfectly w/out any mods needed.

I know it has the exact same shape, uses the same fuel cap and vacuum petcock, and also has the same mounting points/rubber dampers.

The SR tanks will fit, but are shaped slightly differently as Ron mentioned.
They also have a completely diff fuel cap and a float for the "low fuel level" warning light, which would be usless on your bike unless you figured out a way to wire a light in for it to function.
The '80 KZ650-E1 "LTD" tank also will mount up, but is the same as the SR as far as the fuel cap and float are concerned.
