77 KZ 1000 blue? was created by oyasin
I bought a 77KZ1000 that I thought was green. It was so badly faded when I polished it and put it in the sun it was blue...sort of. Check out this ebay bike. He said he used correct paint. Is this what the 77 blue looked like new? beautiful.... I'd appreciate any comments on this or any other 77 in that color so many have called that "wierd blue" I have never seen a good example. I was considering buying an oem side panel from Kaw to get it correct. I have asked the seller for color info and will post his response.
thanks all...

I also have an original paint 1977 KZ1000A, but the maroon version. I don't know if the digital camera is affecting the eBay posting you linked to, but it looks pretty close to what I remember (used to own one new, way back when). It is a difficult paint scheme as the bike looks blue when new but with time, sun-fades to a greenish blue. I'm pretty sure that www.paintworkz.com is pondering offering repaints for the 1977 KZ1000's and he certainly understands how this paint was laid down. You might chat with him.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

All these years I've never seen a KZ1000 in blue even remotely close to that color. They do list blue as a color option in 1977, but I don't think it was the shade seen in the ebay auction. $5000 and reserve not met on that bike is way out of line.
