Police C-model gas tank cap? Or flush fitting cap mod?
01 Apr 2007 06:46
Hi all,
I have a C-model police gas tank, that I want to use on my '77 Z1000A1. My original tank was severely dented by my USD forks (no steering stops :S )
Trouble is: it came without cap. So far I have not been able to find one. Does anybody have any tips?
An alternative might be to cut out the filler altogether and replace it with a modern flush-fitting cap. Has anybody done this? What would I need to use, and what is there to watch out for?
Thanks!

Err... modding the tank to a latch-type is likely do-able, but it'd be delicate surgery, and at least half a dozen things I can think of could go wrong with it.
Try John Cordsen at Western Motorcycle Escort - he's a good guy (and a member here, but doesn't log on very often) , has several tons of KawCop parts and has forgotten more about KawCops than most of us that own 'em ever even think we know...
I'd guess he has a box of gas caps lying around somewhere - *much* easier to get one in the mail than convert that tank.
