Electrolytic rust removal was created by oldcoldankles
I found these these rust removal links on another forum. One of the guys reported using it to remove rust from the inside of Kawasaki gas tanks. He reported it took a few days soak sometimes but the results were definitely worth it. To clean the inside of a fuel tanks, they filled it with the solution and dropped the anode into the tank making sure it doesn't touch the sides. They used a long bolt stuffed through the center of a cork to do the tanks.
Anyone tried it?

Yep, I have. And it works very well on rust. But I've said it before and I'll say it again - make absolutely sure there is nothing in the tank other than rust! I had some varnished fuel spots in mine that protected the surface from the electrolysis and now I have spots on raised rusty surfaces... Remember, this process is REMOVING the metal surface of the tank, so be feaking careful.......

I tried it with salt water and it didn't work at all. I've read about using caustic soda but havn't tried it as yet.
If you really want to clean your tank and don't want to spend days doing it follow this link.

Works every time no matter how much rust you have.
