HOW TO REVITALIZE PLASTIC LENSES
31 Dec 2006 08:48
OK, not a motorcycle issue but I think it applies and I hope somebody can help me...
I´m restoring a 1981 Honda Accord (it seems that I´m just too fond of old japanese stuff:P ) that is in pretty good shape, except for a couple of details. One of them is the faded and opaque rear integrated brake/turn signal lenses. Can they be restored with some kind of product, to bring the shininess back? I recall a post somewhere in this site but couldn´t find it.
Cheers an Happy New Year.

OK, thanks for the input. Gonna check those products websites to find if we have similar stuff down here.
Spraying them with some kind of clear coat maybe? What do you think about it?
Thanks.

OK, it seems that Lemon Pledge and Endust are common furniture cleaning products, and the sanding and polishing part is understood. I can´t think of an equivalent product to Plexus, but I´ll try the furniture cleaner first.
Thanks again.

Used to use 'no-wax' acrylic floor polish to 'refurb' scratched VDT screens. Worked great. Might be worth a try on some scrap. Have sanded and polished. Works but will not remove crazing.

Ther is a product made by permatex that restores plastic headlight lenses. It is a good little kit it sells for about $15.00 it does two automotive headlights. If buy the product seperatly it will cost you more unless you already have some around the house/shop. You first start off with 1000 grit wet paper then move to 1500 grit and then to 2000 grit wet sanding all the way then you finish off with a plastic polish. I know 3m makes the polish and it is sold in a consumer pkg at CarQuest for about $11.00. Perhaps you could finish it off with the products listed by the other posters??

Thanks for your concern, but I cannot buy those brands here in Argentina, so I must try to find similar products and test them. I think I´ll try the furniture cleaner first and, if it doesn´t work as I want to, try another suggestion.
Cheers and Happy New Year!
