Disc trade, anyone?
03 Dec 2006 23:36
OK, in gathering my bits to change over to dual disc on my '78 KZ650B2 I bought an NOS front rotor on Ebay for waaayyy too much $. Thinking it would be a match to my orig rotor, I was surprised to see it is exactly the same in every way EXCEPT it's a couple mm's thinner!
I need a 7mm thick rotor in good, smooth shape...I will trade someone even-up for the correct disc! Email or PM me asap please.
many thanks all,
Ray Kelley

The rotors on the dual disk models are thinner than the rotors on the single disk models, so I suggest finding another thin one to match the one you already have.

I've got one that may fit the bill. I'll measure it up and send you a few pics if you like.

Thanks Steell, I was wondering about the reasoning behind the thinner disc, got it;) Will a std thick disc NOT work in this app? Just wondering if I am gonna run into trouble or not.
Thanks Sam, please send the pics you have and if you would meassure the thickness I would appreciate it

The standard thick single disks will work, they just increase the unsprung weight.
I have used two of the thick disks on one of my twins until I could get a pair of thinner ones.

like steell said, they will work, they are just heavier. you should be able to run one of each no trouble too, the piston in the caliper should move in more with the thin one when you bleed the brakes so they should grab equally
if you want a thick one instead, I have one, they are 7mm thick (I have the whole front end minus the steering stem I could get rid of actually)

Hi Scott, I think I ultimately would like them to match; thick or thin no matter really ![B) B)](/media/kunena/emoticons/1.png)
Let me know how you want to work the trade, your disc is in good smooth shape, mine is very clean and would like a near match if possible.
thanks much!

Wireman and I were going to swap awhile back, but I have upgraded the whole front end instead. I dont really want to trade, but Ill let it go for a fair price since its no good to me. Wireman has first dibs if he still wants it though...
