trike???

not saying I'm going to do one but just to throw around some ideas, say you had a 650,1000,ect chain drive bike how would you set up the rear end and what would you use for an axle, it would probably be easier with one of the shaft drive bikes but in this case we have a chain drive, how about the rear suspention, hard or soft tail

Yamahas (Not sure which model)use a box that is chain driven and the output is shaft. I've seen them listed on ebay. Just would need to make sure the shaft drive turned the right way.

05 Nov 2006 19:44If i was gonna go a quad and i may well
have to with my back id go for the kz1300
its shaft driven plenty of omff and would
go pretty easy. chain driven quads are a little
scary when the chains get realy long imho

I went to the stafford swap meet/show a few weeks ago and they had a nice 750/4 kawasaki trike on display, this one was done super, looked real fast really sparked my interest,I have a bunch of 650s around a trike may be in order soon, would an axle from a quad be strong enough for one

Last weekend at a bike run I saw a harly trike. It was belt drive and it had what seemed like a normal trike rear end. Don't exactly know how to describe it. I haven't looked at too many trikes, so I'm not sure how a "normal" trike rear end is set-up. But, if such a thing existed this would be it. It looked pretty normal, nothing really custom looking to it and it did not look like something modified from a car's rear end. It looked cycle through and through.
I have a picture of the trike, but it doesn't reallt show the read end, it was taken from the front of the trike.
That does not help any.
My only question would be whether a 650 engine would have sufficient power for a trike. I think the best choice would be a big cube engine like a 1300cc.
Good Luck, sounds like an interesting ideal.

You might hack a shaft drive differential by welding a sprocket to the ring gear...

Almost all of the Company's (Lehman, Champion, California Sidecar, etc.) making conversions use a Ford 9" rear end. The housings and axles are shortened, the differential case is slotted and a sprocket is fixed to the differential.
The Harley servicar is, essentially, the same.
Some of the company's do make independant drive mechanizm's such as I made.

actually it doesnt really matter. if its going the "wrong" way (reverse) flip the diff upside down, that makes reverse forward;) (saw that trick on "junkyard wars")Just would need to make sure the shaft drive turned the right way.

C'mon Harry, post a pic of the work of art that you created!!
If we can get Harry to post some detailed pics you folks that have not seen it will be flat out amazed :woohoo:
And he didn't use any kit, he did it all himself.
