zx6, zx7 rear brakes
26 Oct 2006 17:12
Hi, I'm presently working on putting a 2004 zx6/zx636 swing-arm on my z1-900 which is done except I ran into a problem withe brakes, I'm also useing a 2002 zx7 17x6 rear wheel and the stock brake for the 04 swing-arm will not work it seems that the rotor is too big and the hub is slightly off set in and the brake mount will not line up where it is intended to be and was wondering if I should have used a brake and mount off of a 02 zx7 to match the wheel? completely lost if some one has an idea please share. thanks tkoontz106912@comcast.net

Ok, I was working on this problem a bit on the wknd. I was able to make a couple aluminum spacers to move the caliper over to where it should be, but you are right, the rotor is slightly too big in diameter. by looking at some pics, the zx7 brake setup should work with the zx6 arm, but since I have the zx6 parts allready, I think Im going to get my rotor machined down enough to work, it should only be about 5 mm off of the diameter

Scott, I decided to cheat with the help from my kz-guru buddy that we took the zx-636 or zx-6 caliper apart and marked the rotor to see where exactly it rubbed then we took a die grinder and ground in on the top of the caliper a little till the caliper would move freely, the brake pad will be a little lower on the rotorbut should be fine then made my wheel spacer so the brake mount was snuggly against the lug on the arm and now all I have to do is make small spacers between the caliper and mount and be done, we did think of machineing the rotor but this was faster and cheaper for now. thanks

BigBlock, I may try that too, if its working, and hasnt been weakened too much, its definatly a lot more cost effective that going to a machine shop:)
