wide tire for a 78 KZ1000? was created by Bicycle Lee
So...I'm a newbie...
What would it take to get a wider tire on the rear of my 78 KZ1000 police bike?

how wide? I think a 140 fits the stock stuff, more work is needed to go really wide, read sig

I agree. If you do a search on here there are quite a few threads that cover this. If I can give one piece of advice its "Research, research, research."

A 200 is doable but its going to require quite a bit of work since a 5/8" offset chain/ sprocket combo sometimes barely clears a 190. You're most likely going to have a chain that wants to take up the same space as the frame rail at the swingarm pivot. Unless you run some sorta jack shaft setup like on the big tire 'Busa, Zx's and such. Then you could run the stock front sprocket and clear the frame just like with the stock rim. You would just have to come up with a good design to tension the chain between the engine and the jack shaft. Hope this helps.

eh....I'm over it. I'll keep my standard wheeland tire. I just figured that it might be a softer, smoother ride with the wider tire now that it's a hard tail...
