speedometer drive unit was created by riverroad
Hi, Newbie here.
I just bought a 1980 KZ1000 LTD. Mechanically sound, but ugly as sin (rattle can paint job).
First thing I need to fix is the speedometer drive unit.
Anybody know where I can get a new one? Are other model Kawasakis the same (interchangeable)?
And I think I'd also like to replace the speedometer anyway, because the 80mph speedometer just looks plain ridiculous on a KZ1000. After getting to know this beast all weekend, I'm pretty sure she'll do at least a little bit over eighty.;)

Thanks Btchalice, I'll keep that in mind, but first I gotta get the speedo cable turning before I concentrate on the gauges. That does look a lot like my setup though.

You should be able to adapt a higher reading speedo pretty easily, I think.

I have a drive unit, part number 41078-008. It is for my 650 speedo. My cross reference software says it will swap only up to KZ1000 1979. But whether that is due to the switch to 80 mph speedos I don't know, or axle size..?

If you can't find one or adapt something to a newer or higher speedo let me know, I'll send it to you for postage. I don't know the axle hole size in it, it's for a 78 650 B2.

update
Hey now that I look at the part numbers used on my front hub and your front hub, this drive assy should fit just fine. Let me know if you want it.
