3.50H19RB2 ? was created by cnyl
Ummmmm. what is that size? I know it's a 19" rim and 3.50 is the width..But what size Dunlop 501gt is that?
My manual says tubes are used. The tires on it now say tubless. Cast wheels on my 80 Kz550 A1.

Do I need tubes with the 501gt's?

I think the 550 is tube. All tires to my knowledge are currently tagged as tubeless but that is only if you have a tubeless design wheel, which I doubt on a 550. If all else fails and you're not sure whether you have a tubeless wheel or not, it only takes 5 seconds to find out after you release the air from the tire. If you can press, stand, beat or otherwise get the bead of the tire loose from the rim, you have a tube type wheel. A tubeless tire cannot be broken loose of the wheel without help of special tools, or at least a c-clamp. You can't do it otherwise. This is why tubes have to be used with a tube type wheel, because if you would lose air the tire will come off the wheel. On tubeless wheels the tire is always held to the wheel. There are exceptions of course, but that's the idea.
Also a 100/90-19 is more of a 3.25-19 tire than a 3.50. You might want to think about a 110/90-19.

not trying to be a smart a$$, but what holds the tube type on if it goes flat? I know my bike does not have rim locks on the front. I do run the tires "tubeless" on my tube type rims, I have had the rear go flat at about 65 mph, stopped as soon as I got a hole in traffic (about 200 yds) and the beads of the tire were still where they should be.

I could be dead wrong, but I'm not dead yet and have had many a flat tire ;) I think just the fact the tube is in the tire, even if flat is enough to help hold the tire on the rim enough to be safer than no tube anyway.
As an of topic, what's the strangest, most unusual cause of a flat anyone has had? Mine was on a brand new Dunlop 591, I got a flat, took off the tire and tube and found a knife blade about 4" long by 1" width in my tire. I was riding down the road, hit a knife, it stood up just right to get through a brand new tire!

The 550's had tubeless wheels starting in 81 I think. My 81 gpz's are all tubeless, but the 80 A1 may have still been tubed. You can tell by looking at the wheel, the tubeless ones have "tubeless" cast right into the wheel.

... and the GT501 are excellent, in my opinion. I used to like the 591's, but the 501's replaced them. The only thing is, be sure to replace them when they start to get squared off. It can induce tank slappers when the rear starts to wear out. I found out the hard way at over 100.

Hey guys. Thanks for your help. There is no marking on the rims that mention tubes. So by the info you have given me I will need to use tubes with the new 501 gt's.
Since i'm putting new rubber on I should put new tubes on as well. Correct? Do I use the same tire size number to pick out the tubes?

I just looked on bikebandit. the 110/90-19 is not an option for the 501gt's. only the 100/90-19.
