steering damper

I am restoring an '82 KZ1000J. Included in a crate of parts was this steering damper, which may be from an '81 KZ1100B, which the previous owner also had. Can anyone provide any advice on where and how this attaches? Thanks.

Keep trying Jeff...I will add though, that steering dampers were not original Kawasaki equipment, so if you are restoring....leave it off. But if you want it to improve handling, then install it.:)

Jeff . I've mounted my steering dampers body to the area where the side reflector was originally mounted (left side is preferable)there are two holes there (one threaded and on not) you may need to fabricate a bracket of some kind to attach to this area. The other end(rod end) will require fastening to a fork tube clamp(you can get one of these aftermarket at your local bike shop). McD is correct they were not originally installed. Eddie Lawsons S1 racebike had one though

Thanks; I think I'm with you. Any chance you could send a picture of how you did it? I know where the reflector holes are, but it seems like it would hit the tank in this location, no?

Jeff. Sure no problem. Although the pic that Kano submitted pretty well explains what I've done.I mounted my damper higher up than his though(about an 1/4" below the lip of the tank), doesnt hit the tank at all.I mounted the fork tube clamp above the lower triple where as Kano appears to have mounted his below the lower triple. Either way will work I think, just depends on how close to the tank you want to mount the other end.
