Rear Brake snap!
05 Oct 2006 16:37
So I have had the bike all summer put close to 3500 miles on it finally replaced the chain (this late in the year I figure just chain no sprockets) I still have the old front tire but it still seems ok will last the rest of the year. But tonight going out for a quick thrash I snapped the bolt that connects the rear lever to the hub, it's the large bolt the pad wear indicator connects to. I got on the brakes after heating some corners and ther was a big snap! and suddenly I had no rear brakes at all. I got home and looked at the bike and the connector rod and wear indicator were off and dragging on the ground. the brake stay bar was dissconnected too. Where can I get a new bolt? Ebay? what do I ask for? The bike otherwise runs great, super fun and pulls nice and hard above 7k.

That's not a bolt, that's the brake cam that pushes the shoes against the drum ![:) :)](/media/kunena/emoticons/8.png)
41050-017 CAM SHAFT,BRAKE
According to buykawasaki.com
Ron Ayers can probably get it.
$19.51 at
ronayers.com
There is the possibility that one off another model will work.

So i replaced the brake cam, and also found the stay had come undone, I bolted that back together but this weekend that old brake snap came back. It seems when you threshold brake with the rear there is an intermittent harsh metal to metal snap and the lever goes loose. A few slower uses of the brake and it comes back. any thoughts as to what could cause this?

Have you ever replaced the shoes?
Might be the lining pulling loose.
