Slicks ???
25 Sep 2006 15:45
Help... I bought a 5"X17 rim for my KZ 1000 to run a slick but they only make 18" slicks. the smallest slick is 5.5 X 18 will this fit on a 4" rim ? Junk dealer told me that there was none or very little rims made size 5"X18. So what size rim is all these guys that are running a slick using. thanks for any help.

Yea but I dont want to go that wide the 5.5" is going to be tuff enough just to fit it all in the swingarm. I found someone on another site that says they have put a 5.5" on a 3.5" rim (goodyear)and it worked fine so it should work on my 4" rim I hope.

I'm putting a 5.5 on my 5 inch wide rim. I heard from a lot of racers on dragbike.com that they run a 5.5 on a 3.5 wide rim. With a four inch rim you will be fine. Just make sure you put screws in it to keep the tire from slipping.

A road race slick would work. There should be oodles around in 17". They are thrown away at road race tracks. Picked up a bunch years ago from Shannonville and gave them away to GSXR guys drag racing at St. Thomas. With low air pressure I would figure profile of tire would not come in to play too much. So no one makes a 17" drag slick? Even with the plethora of newer street bikes being taken to strip.

Will it fit? Profile may not be as flat as you would like. I imagine these are 7" slicks for bikes with 6-6.5" rears wheels (Zx12,14,busas). If you can put a 5.5 on a 3.5 rim. Can you get a 7 on a 5.5 rim? I would give it a try. If your rim is spoked you might think about screwing tire on anyways.
