Frame crack

I found a crack in my frame down near the exhaust headers. Looks like it happened when the previous owner dropped it, as there are scratches all over it. Is this reasonably repairable, or should I just sell/ part out the bike?

I've been able to make successfull repairs to frames for years minute, post a pic of the cracked area so we can see where its at and how bad it is!!!

That might help...I already slapped myself to save you the trouble.

thats looks to be a split from frozen water in the frame?? if it was me i would weld that thing up and find out where that water got in

Had exactly the same kind of crack in mine a few years ago. Just get a pro to clean it and weld it. Hey, it´s iron tube not some aeroplanestuff:P

Hmm, that's the brake pedal in the pic, right... so that's near the rear of the engine cradle on the right side right by the normal bend of the frame. Looks kinda wide there too, like it's bent at the crack a bit too...

Looks like from stress from a hard landing after jumping something... did Evel Kenevel own this bike?

You say he dropped it? Looks like it hit something in the drop and stress cracked. I'm not a welder, but won't a good weld be stronger than the original?

Looking at it, there are scratches on the other side of the frame. Dropping it on its side could not have made those marks. Looks like he hit something or maybe dropped it off a trailer while unloading. Regardless, it still needs to be fixed, correct?

BTW, for those of you wondering, I haven't ridden it yet, I am still working on it. I didn't make this moron (the previous owner) up.

Looks like split from ice to me too. Clean it, weld it, and if yo udon't want to look for where the water got in, drill a hole so it can't collect again.

Minute,my concern would been in the distortion of the tube that's cracked,if it's not to bad clean the cracked area up and weld the crack up,i'm not so sure i'm sold on the frozen water theory,the tube looks to distorted for me to buy that ,i'm thinking more like the frame has been dragged there numerous times or dropped like you said and the split you're seeing is the seam in the tubing ,if there is a spot water is getting in the frame you should be able to find it once you start welding the crack up,especially if you don't drill a relief hole for the cracked area.Take your time welding,i would heli arc it if it was mine, i don't know what kind of experience or tools you have access to.You don't have to be a certified welder to fix this problem,i'm sure the little kids working for slave labor aren't certified !!! :woohoo:

Drilling a hole won't compromise the integrity of the frame?

For the sake of stopping people from saying "the crack is already compromising it!!!!", I will rephrase:

If the frame was brand new, would drilling a drain hole compromise the frame integrity?
