Tires suggestion for 80 LTD 1000
12 Aug 2006 10:27
Got my old trusty bike out of storage after 21 years. I bought it new the year i got out of college and quickly put 16,000 miles on it. Put it away in 1985, the year my daughter was born. She just turned 21, so it is time to bring it out of the basement. So far i have replaced the front fork oil, seals and dust seals. Rebuilt the carbs and installed a new air filter. Rebuilt all the calipers and installed new pads. New bars and grips. I have it to the point where it runs just like when i put it away. Now i am looking at tires. I stopped into the local cycle shop, Iron Pony to pick up some new meats. The guys there told me my selections are very limited. The only thing they had in stock to fit were Cheng Sing tires. they didn't look like the Michilens or Metzlers that i saw. Quit frankly they looked pretty cheap. The front size is 110/90-19 the rear is 130/19-16. Does any one have any advice on tires and possibly where to get them? The bike is a LTD 1000 with the aluminum stock rims.

WOW!
Actually those sizes have ALOT available for, Dunlop, Bridgestone, Metzler, Avon, Ching Shen, Kenda etc.
I run the S11 Bridgestones on mine, a great tire for the price.

Welcome to KZr Erie Addict.
Like KawasakiBob stated, there are actually quite a few diff brands available in those sizes.
Most can be found online. And if the shop you already checked with isn't willing to order them for you, I'd suggest checking around for another shop that will.
The brand and compound of tire will depend on what your riding style and budget dictate.

I'd love to, but I don't live there anymore. I've had that moniker for so long that I just kept it. Thanks for the offer, though.
