GPZ/ELR Conversion was created by Maverick
Does anybody by chance have photos of the frame attachment points for a GPZ seat / tank / rear cowl / seat latch and lock? I have an '81 KZ 1000 CSR that I'm converting to an ELR. The seat mounts in a completely different fashion. Any photos would be greatly appreciated! If you do have a chance to snap some photos, if you could include a tape measure for reference, that would be great! Thanks!!!

Not sure if it would work for your bike but you may be able to remove the cushion and upolstery from the ELR seat and put it on your stock pan.
At least that's what I'm hoping will work for mine...
Anybody know if it will work or tried it before?

Maverick:

I don't have a digital camera but I can take some measurements for you, but not until after I get home tonight. Off hand, the biggest obstacles I see are going to be positioning the tank/seat/tail piece on your bike. The tanks on early GPz1100's are about 25" long...your current tank is about 23". So if you put the GPz/ELR seat flush with the tank, you will still be positioned close to the front of the bike and more adapted to an upright riding posture.

Thanks McDroid... Yep, I'm aware of the longer tank. I'm hoping for more of a street racer position... Just got some GPZ 1100 foot peg mounts, chain cover, shifter, rear brake, etc for the more rear-ward riding position. Only thing I'm still shopping for is the seat and a right side cover.

I'll post a pic with requested dimensions momentarily. Here's a pic of the KZ frame

Your project kind of sounds familiar. I've spent the last year trying to figure out how I can make mine more ELR like. Good luck. I wonder if the GPZ550 tank is shorter and would work better (provided it didn't look stupid)? It has a connection at the back like your tank (but you would have to get rid of the bottom connection). Are you planning to use LTD mags or play around with a dimensional change by using 18" rear mags?

Right now, I have a kz750 seat on the way to see if I can use the pan on my bike (because it will take the GPZ type rear cowl). It appears to bend more like my existing seat (your seat too) and might work better than a gpz seat which appears to be straighter.

Once again, good luck...keep us posted.

Can do. Expect the dimensions by tonight (or early tomorrow at the latest). Metric measurements or English? BTW, the measurements will be based on a 1982 GPz1100.

Thanks waterman... Seems like my biggest difficulty will be the seat latch... I may just have to use a simplified approach rather than try to reverse engineer to stock. I suppose the easiest approach may be to find a gpz frame in a scrap yard, lop off the tail end and weld it up to mine... But what would be the fun in that??? Plus, GPZ frames seem to be so rare...

So if I make a 'fake replica' does that make it the real thing??? B)

Cool. Whatever type of measurement is easiest for you McDroid... I can always convert. I really appreciate your help!

Cheers!
