1980 LTD 1000 rear hub bearing spacer

Removing the bearings these 2 parts were just laying inside the rear hub rim. Which orientation do the 2 parts fit together? After that I assume it doesn't matter which side is left/right.

That appears to go between the bearing on the left side of the wheel and the short sleeve (13) inside the drive housing.

It actually goes between the two wheel bearings (17) and is #19 in that parts diagram. The picture there isn't very clear on the orientation as shown by my pictures. And the parts list also doesn't show it as two pieces which mine is.

The "top hat" is usually a press fit on the bearing spacer from the factory and it sits in the hub casting in a recess behind one of the wheel bearings.
The Top hat end of the spacer should be on the same side that the wheel spindle enters the hub.
The correct orientation is in the 3rd pic with the narrow section that grips the sleeve facing towards the end .
It serves to keep one end of the sleeve aligned with the bearing to prevent the sleeve dropping out of line when fitting the wheel spindle.
The spacer is then trapped between the wheel bearings but other end without "top hat" is able to be moved to one side slightly to allow that side wheel bearing to be removed with a drift on the inner race before removing the spacer to gain full access to the other side.
