Z1000A1 front caliper
03 Jul 2026 10:57
Hi, i have a caliper on my Z1000A1 that has a leaking bleed nipple, the fluid is coming out of the hole down the centre of the nipple, i have tried a new nipple , same issue, so it is not seating in the bottom of the caliper, tried cleaning down in the caliper but i have the same problem, im thinking the caliper is U/S, does anyone have a
caliper for sale in the UK.

You could try carefully cleaning the nipple seat by hand with a drill bit (10mm thread so an 8mm bit would clear) the nipple just needs a clean surface to seal against

Thanks for the response Wookie58, i have tried cleaning down in the caliper, this is a replacement caliper that i bought and after looking at it again i think the problem is that the bleed nipple screws in so that the nut is flush to the caliper, so possibly been over tightened and therefore damaged the seat area in the caliper, think the solution is another caliper.
Thanks

I had already noticed from the photos that the "shoulder" of the hex head appears to be resting directly against the caliper housing. This suggests that someone likely reworked the depth of the bore and the seat at some point and went "too deep" in the process. Possible solutions might be: a) getting a longer bleeder screw; b) using a lathe to machine a relief cut into the bottom edge of the hex head to gain more depth; or c) getting a new brake caliper.
Greetings, Joe

Red You could try this, provided there's enough "meat" left in threaded area. I suspect the person you'd gotten it from had a bleed nipple that broke off and they tried drilling it out. By drilling they went waay too far and cut into the bleeder seat and buggered-up the original
7mm threads. If that's the case then a new one is in order. Just too much work, ($$) then it's worth to bring it back. Too bad because it looks like you've powdercoated all the pieces to match. If seat IS still intact then you could try an SAE sized bleeder, 5/16 X 24 pitch as shown. OEM is 7mm so it would give about 1 mm to play with. BUT, threads have be cut perfectly perpendicular to seat or it'll leak...still. When looking for replacements look for a matching sized caliper piston sized one. Not readily noticeable from the outside but these came in TWO piston sizes 38 and 42mm versions. Verify before purchase! Too bad you're across the pond from me, i've all kinds of them. But fear not, they are abundant and used on multiple machines. Some photos for comparison and shopping. Good Luck!
