Rear-set gear shift and brake control
19 Jun 2026 09:06
Perhaps, one or two of you here still remember my "Mad Max bikes",
I’ve always enjoyed the riding position on my "Goose-Bike".... These days, those "Moto-Italia" controls are very rare—and quite expensive to get hold of when they do turn up. Last Friday, I was lucky enough to buy a set right here in my hometown. So, after doing a bit of prep work over the last few days, I got busy today and installed the controls back onto my A2. (It’s always great—and helpful—to have a small lathe in the garage...
Everything went smoothly; I just took it for a test ride, and it feels exactly like I remember—yippee!

Thank you!
(the riding position is actually better for my knees and hips than the stock setup because they aren't bent as sharply anymore. -In the original position, they were bent at nearly 90 degrees, whereas now it's a bit more relaxed... Combined with the flat drag bar, it feels just like sitting on a drag bike—)

Heck Joe as smart as You are at the helm of a lathe you could of just started from scratch and turned out a whole duplicate on lunch break ha. Less stress on lower body, more stress on forearms. A touch of golden anodizing flair to boot!

Hey Clay, thanks, but you're giving me too much credit
In this case, I just had to fabricate two special screws (reducing the head diameter from 12mm to 8mm), cut the lever off the linkage mechanism and weld it back on in a new position, and make the rods—including adjusting the linkage geometry... and I'm not entirely happy with the "gold" finish... sure, it echoes the gold stripes in the paintwork, but I might have the levers fine-blasted at some point; then they'd be natural aluminum... (And BTW: I'm currently in the process of wrapping up my freelance work and closing down my workshop... the effort involved has started to outweigh the returns ;-(
