Fork damper rod piston ring
27 May 2026 02:10 - 27 May 2026 02:12
Has anybody had any luck finding the plastic piston ring that goes around the top of the front Fork damping rod? Mine looks pretty worn, and I see a few of them for sale for other bikes with larger forks. The only alternative is to buy an entirely new damper, rod if you can find one. Surely to God somebody has these cheap little plastic bits available, right?

27 May 2026 02:43it’s quite a bit smaller than a Guide Bush, and made of plastic. I don’t know anybody with a lathe, no. They have to be sold somewhere, or there’s another bike out there that uses one of the same size.Looks like a guide bush ? do you know anybody with a lathe that could make them for you ?

I wouldn't change it unless I had a problem with the front suspension.
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar.

Suggest it be run as-is.
Do you suspect the wear is causing any reduction in damping? If so, how does it manifest?
Judging by the wear patterns of the darker, apparently-untouched areas in the center of the ring's circumference, wear might be measured in single microns.
Recommend not to attempt removing them. Plastic that's lived ~34 yrs. in an oily environment likely is brittle, and won't tolerate much flexing. It only exhibits slight scuffing now. If broken, it's gone.

I do not think Kawasaki offered that as a separate part, but Partzilla shows the fork cylinder (aka damping rod) as an active part number. That means it should be available from any Kawasaki dealer or any oem parts seller like Partzilla and CMS.
