Sprocket cover removed, doing inspections

Was looking for sprocket and chain wear and to check for oil leaks.  This chain and sprocket have been on the bike since I've owned it (1987) and could be the original, not sure.  Does the picture of the teeth indicate wear to the trained eye?  And I've attached a movie showing the nut that holds the sprocket on is loose enough that I can turn it.  Only the locking tab is preventing it from turning all the way off.  I'm assuming this nut should have been much tighter than it was.

I also have some play on the shift shaft.  A little bit in and out and slightly side to side.  Is there a tolerance on what's acceptable?  And if not are there easily accessible replacement parts.

And lastly on the part where the clutch cable attaches there is some sloppiness in that assembly.  Hopefully the movie shows that.

Nothing abnormal in what you describe.
Shift shaft movement sounds normal without the outer cover fitted.
Sprockets can loosen over time which is why the lock tab is there to reduce the risk of it going awol and causing a disaster.
Sprocket teeth have began to hook due to wear so worth fitting a new one along with the rear and drive chain .

What bike?  We don't recognize the clutch release exactly from that angle.

If it's a steel & nylon worm gear-type clutch release ala Z1, that appears to be more play than we'd like.

There's some slight hook developing on the one sprocket tooth that can be seen clearly in profile.  If the chain is well within wear spec with no significant kinking, we'd drive the lock tab back, tighten the nut, fold the tab down again & ride it.

On the other hand, you've gone this far.  If you have new chain & sprockets on hand already, you're about 1/3 rd. the way there.  R&R the rear sprocket usually seems to be more than half a chain & sprockets project to us.  That's assuming a master link chain.

If you need to replace one piece (front sprocket, chain, or rear sprocket), replace all 3 at the same time. One worn part in the set will ruin the new part(s) quickly.

This is from a 1980 LTD 1000. I’ll look for a parts diagram and see if anything in the clutch release is serviceable.   It basically spins and as it does it moves outward to push the rod in.  There are 2 screws holding it to the cover.   I have new sprockets and chain on order.

Look up your model on partzilla.com's site they have parts diagrams for each assembly. You can see the exploded view of the release mechanism there.
Also a good way to come up with factory part numbers for searches.
And they are a reputable source for parts.

Thanks Wookie. I initially saw that diagram and it didn’t look much like mine but most of those parts are hidden. I don’t see many parts being sold for these.  However I see something called EZ clutch. Is that what I’m stuck using?  It’s $150

I'd take the actuation mechanism apart and grease it.  Lube the cable while you are in there.  And consider changing the sprockets and chain if they have many miles on them.  Conversion from 630 to 530 is beneficial for various reasons.
