Kickstand Bumper

17 Mar 2026 12:57

I've been reworking my kickstand. One issue is the PO had just wrapped electrical tape where the bumper used to be. Obviously I don't want that. I can't find anything anywhere. I assume it needs to be hard plastic because it bumps up against the muffler. Does anyone have an idea where to get one or what to do?

If you are talking about number 10 in the diagram, it shows as still available new from Kawasaki, so you should be able to get it from any dealership, Partzilla, Webike, CMS, Revzilla, et cetera.

Too late & maybe not appropriate for the OP, but a suggestion for others.

Had to make a stop for use with a 4/2 Jardine system on a Z1, to keep the sidestand from constantly riding directly on the left side collector.

Drilled a small hole in the sidestand bracket slightly above the pivot bolt axis, then turned a  self-tapping screw with a thick head into it.  Makes an adjustable stop.  It's been in service for decades, so the head has been mashed slightly flat.  A half turn or so out compensates.

First pic below shows the screw head in side profile at about 2 o'clock from the pivot bolt axis.  The head was originally slightly rounded, but has been mashed somewhat flat by sidestand pressure.
Second pic is directly facing the screw head.  Lock washer under the screw is only to hold the adjustment a half turn out from seated, as pressure from the sidestand won't let it go move anyway.

The optional dog hair is only there for visual texture.  It was never OEM from Mama Kaw.

An elegant solution. I hope that is a factory screw with the properly rolled threads and small head.........

Thx, TexasKZ.

About the screw head &  threads...

It is a factory screw, but - we're sure that screw is wrong every which way possible for a vintage Japanese motorcycle.
slmjim sez it's an old SAE Fillister head slotted screw; a main drive motor gearbox screw from a vintage American-manufactured APECO Corp. photocopier circa mid 1970's.   The APECO Corp. (Americvan  Photocopy Equipment COrporation) trained slmjim from scratch in electronics and copy-process, evolving into a  40+ yr. career in the document imaging & IT arenas.  slmjim loved that career as a Field Tech early-on, and, later, Field Network Analyst - misses it every day.

So..., if one could peer into slmjim's career-leftover homegrown IT lab that fills a spare room, and from where these sometimes-idiotic posts slowly ooze, one would see a small lump of 'stuff' on his head right now, due to acknowledging ownership that screw.  That 'stuff' is called 'BOO".  Consequently, 'BOO' on his head for using an altogether-wrong screw, yet for the right reasons.

Well if i were guessing that's the Fillister "small" headed screw used on the standard model Ron Popeil Pocket Fisherman, Deluxe model used a bolt. The Toothed washer is special "internal" toothed used only on Matchless 1960 G12's. Back at ya TexasKZ, ha
