Front master cylinder - 1980 1000 LTD B4

Is the plastic portion of this master cylinder removable for painting and/or powder coating?

Yes, it's removable. Have handy a nice #2 JIS phillips bit or screwdriver for removing the two screws at the bottom of reservoir. You want to properly remove them!! They are a bear to remove if you bugger-up the threads. What appears as a trapezoidal plastic bit visually it's actually round underneath and uses an o-ring for sealing. Might want to solid mount the master to something and use an impact driver to remove those 2 screws. Square and sharply without letting the #2 bit wander. They can be a bear to remove, just saying..

If only people would change their brake fluid and the correct intervals they would not have these challenges with internal corrosion !!

Ain't that the truth, when I worked in car dealer networks we pushed it every two years but I have no doubt that once those cars where of an age where they didn't come to dealerships for servicing it probably stopped. Same with people who do their own maintenance. I guess a lot of folks think it's just a money spinner and don't understand the "why"
