replacing right hand controls

OK I'm sure I'll feel stupid when I find out but I'm stumped. I need to replace my on/off/start switch and if they are in there, I can't find instructions for disassembly in the FSM.  Easy enough to detach the wiring at the switch, but how do you remove the throttle cables to move the grip to the new switch housing?

There are two screws, accessed on the bottom of the switch housing. Completely remove the two screws, separate the two halves of the housing, the throttle assembly will be released.
Be sure to lubricate the cables while you have it apart.

Stupid is when you "don't" ask and then break something

...and if you want to change the (lower) housing to another new one, sure you have to disconnect the throttle cables from the carbs, then you can srew them out of the lower housing.!

Well the screw part was easy...but the throttle stuff doesn't just pop out.

That's why I asked, because something was gonna break...

This here is what I was actually wondering about, and where something was gonna break, because it doesn't seem to be as simple as it sounds. How do you get the ball end out to remove the cable? I would be surprised if this isn't in the FSM somewhere but I couldn't find it.

I do my best thinking while driving, and while driving home from my morning shift I realized it doesn't matter, since all I really need is to replace the start button, and I can do that without removing the cables. But I'm sure it would be handy to know anyway.

Disconnect the cables at the carbs and you'll have slack at the handgrip ends to line the cables up with the slots in the throttle grip to remove the cables.

I've had to fix the start button on my bike twice I believe. I'm not sure if I ever tried to find a new one with any success, but they can be repaired. In my case there is a small bit if circuit board that has the start button on it,  the board broke down the middle,  breaking the trace. Epoxy and a jumper wire worked well. (The 2nd time) Good luck !

Yeah it was starting to dawn on me that I would have to disconnect them at the carbs, and I was not in favor of doing that. Fortunately just changing the button switch out occurred to me so that's what I did and all is well now. I haven't looked closely at the bad one to see what all went bad with it, but I probably should see if it can be rehabbed. I think the button just fell off, but it was also blowing fuses when I used a bolt to start it.
