Hello, I have a kz1000police and a chain drive 630 with sprockets of 15 - 35 teeth. I would like to change it to 530. What sizes of sprockets are best for this chain?

I am using 18/46 on my build but the below calculator will let you pick what is best for you

I went to 18/42 and dropped my RPMs from 4,250 at 65MPH to 3,628.

OP says he has 630 with sprockets of 15 - 35 teeth

The direct translation of that same gearing into 530 is 18/42.  It won't drop rpm from where he is now.  For that, he will need a smaller rear sprocket.

I thought Z1Enterprises had a 630-530 conversion article or calculator on their site somewhere.  Might be worth a search.

Doug the calculator I posted is really good and allows you to tailor tyre size and gear ratios to suit your individual needs

6 30 chain/sprockets have 6 /8" link length (3/4")
5 30 chain/sprockets have 5 /8's link length

The 3 0 in the chain size means 3 /8" roller/sprocket width.  In other words, the sprocket/roller width is the same for 630 and 530.

When converting from 630 to 530, first step is to assure the front sprocket is the same diameter, and that means adding 3 teeth size.
So, a 15T 630 sprocket, has the same diameter as 18T in 530.  That's your baseline.

A ratio of 35/15 = 2.333

18T x 2.333 = 42T for the rear sprocket.

BTW, a 35T rear sprocket doesn't seem stock.  Check the parts diagram on partzilla.  Most 1000P bikes use a sprocket that's larger than this, thus the OEM gearing is lower.

Anyway, say the chain is 98 links, in 630.
98 x 6/8" between links = 73.5" long chain.

For 530, 73.5" / 5/8" per link = 117.6 links = 118 link chain

Yup.  I’ve used it countless times for all my wheel swapping.  Just thought something a little less intimidating (read: simpler) might be worth a look.

I missed that. My gearing was 15/41 with 630 chain if my records are correct.
