Highest rated Tires for KZ100
10 Sep 2025 13:06 - 10 Sep 2025 15:24
Hey all,
I am looking for some higher rated tires and I am hoping some one here can point me in the right direction.
120/90/18 and 100/90/19 on standard KZ1000 18/19 rims. - I am hunting for W rated or Higher, I have V but need to be rated above 160mph.
Any one have any suggestions?

You have a KZ that will exceed 160mph"
I have not shopped for Z rated in stock sizes, but I doubt there are any.

We joined the USFRA 130mph club this last week with a top run of 139.765 (almost broke out ) on the 1 mile track. We are going for the 150mph club on the 2.25 mile track next year.
We have more in the engine and room to gear down in the rear.
I can't say we will see 160mph plus, but I do know tech won't pass us until I have tires rated W or better.

W speed rating is 168 mph.
Certainly, in your travels to Bonneville and such, you have met people in that community. What tires do those folks run? I've never heard of an over the counter tire, in KZ sizes, able to endure those sorts of speeds.

Good luck in your search! Running top speed on the lake bed sure sounds like FUN!
Years ago, my buddies and I used to go dirt bike riding out in the California desert at El Mirage dry lake. Several times when out there, the top speed guys were doing their thing! So COOL! The noise was amazing. I remember all kinds of crazy bikes out there. Some with gearing so tall, they needed a truck push up to significant speed to get moving. Ha ha.

Do you have to run stock wheel sizes (dropping to 18's would open up options like early GSXR and GPZ1100-uni tyre sizes ?)

Sorry to clutter up this thread with silly memories, but...
I remember a bike at El Mirage, waiting its turn to run. The bike was seriously laid out, with the foot pegs back by the rear axle! It was a Kawasaki 500 or 750 two-stroke triple, with some long ass expansion chambers. As the rider moved up in queue, when time came to start and warm up the engine, he reached down, while laying over the bike, using his hand on the kick-start lever, and lit that thing off! It purred like a caged tiger. Far more civilized sounding than one might expect. Like most similar modified stock bikes, it had a crazy tall first gear. Sadly, I don't remember how fast this bike ran but the memory is otherwise etched into the deep recesses of my brain!

All the good race orientated tires are mostly 17" very few in 18" and way less in 19".
Shinko has quite a few options, even slicks but mostly in 17" size.

It seems I will be on the hunt for some drag wheels in 17 for up front and something cool for the rear. I would like to find a solid rear wheel -
