Hello,
I am interested in hearing about other peoples opinions and experiences in the different drive chains and sprockets that are still available.
Thank You !

Hi, I have always used DID chains and sprockets on previous bikes, and use the Xring in preference over standard chains. Easier to maintain and longer life. On my current bike, I have kept with original sprockets but still using the Xring. I suppose it is down to what you want from a chain, but DID have been producing chains and sprockets for well over 80years, and supply many race teams.

Yep. Can't go wrong with DID. As far as sprockets, JT Sprockets is good too.

eBay sprockets might be ok. Definitely not eBay chain.

DID, RK, EK, Regina, Tsubaki, and others.  Most of these manufacturers make a range of quality chains, from basic to killer expensive racing chains.  If you want "the best", you gonna PAY.  In my opinion, a KZ doesn't need one of the super highend chains.  A nice medium quality X-ring chain is good enough.

Edit: and if your bike currently uses a 630 chain, consider converting to 530.  There are a lot more chain options, cheaper, and 530 is lighter, and more than strong enough.  You need to do some simple calculations to switch over.

1977 KZ1000
15T front sprocket in 630
33T rear sprocket
92 link 630 chain
33/15 = 2.2 reduction ratio
92 links x 3/4" per link = 69" long chain

For 530 chain & sprockets
Add 3T to front sprocket (to maintain same diameter) = 18T 530 front sprocket
18T x 2.2 = 40T rear sprocket in 530
69" chain / 5/8 per link = 110 link chain in 530 (might want to buy 112, and shorten as needed)

I use only DID chains and JT sprockets ,(exept the offset sprockets), good quality and collection to setup the final gear to wheel ratio.
JT sprockets offer an online chart with sprocket dimensions for a cross reference.
