Thinking About Fitting Some

Of these :

This is a thing here. Talked with a guy who had some mounted on his CB900 at the bike swap last Summer.

This occurred to me when riding to the meet super early last year just after sun up. I was like "don't need a deer jumping out right now" (fully loaded up)

Am always nervous when early morning riding thru the country as there are a lot of corn fields here in the Fall. Even Spring at dusk they pop out on the roads near wooded areas to lick the salt off the side of the roads! These bitches can kill you...

Was thinking about putting them on my fairing.

I have one of those. I don't know if they work or not. While riding on the logging road the 12 miles to Platina for my weekly beer I heard a rustling in the bushes on the right where a cliff went down to Bee Gum Creek a Doe climbed onto the road, overtook me, crossed my path and went up the other side. I was only doing about 20-25 MPH but that could have been nasty. I found the one I have on the side of the road and thought about gluing it to my front fender. I had a cow bell on my truck and a smaller one for the bike but in this case it didn't work. Out here in the desert we have all kinds of critters crossing the road so I wonder if it will work for them?

They have been available for a lot of years here but never used them.

I worked out of town for 20 years where I had to drive 30-45 mins one way, had a few close calls with deer and raccoons but never had a collision (in my car/truck) I have had birds in my grill but that is about it.

Hitting a buck or even a doe on the bike would be game over as I am always cruising anywhere from 55 to 80 MPH or faster on those country roads.
They breed like rats here as there are only coyotes about, no wolves/bears until you get many hours North of here. I am about 25 miles North of Lake Erie, half way between Windsor and Toronto.
When you do see them they seem to be in groups of 2 or more, sometimes as many as 6.

It was an old cattle ranch. It had a rock dam 1/4 mile upstream (Improved with cinder block) with a groove cut into the side of the mountain at a very gradual slope with sluices crossing the ravines and at the end it was above the two story metal roofed Lincoln log barn. We replaced it with 6" PVC and had 36 PSI at the cabin. Ron had his hydro generator and inverter for power. I built  trestles across them for the pipe. On the longest one I was sitting admiring the view when a buck started grazing below me. That's when I realized they don't look up. I could have got that big RAT. I had two Shasta trailers surrounded by poison oak under the scrub oak trees. (no one would be sneaking up on me) Made a 12v hydro generator out of a swamp cooler squirrel cage with fins I welded on for torque connected to a small DC motor. Had 12v for lights, music and AM radio. The deer walked around like dogs and the bears were around at night. Truly off the grid and I miss it. Good times.
BTW BLM threatened to blow up the dam but Fish and Game said we provided habitat for the Trout so we were able to keep it.

I used electric deer whistles on my touring bike
All I can say is once installed I never had a deer  jump out on me.
Friend of mine hit a deer on his sportster . It cut the deer in half and he crashed.
No bad injuries but  he looked like he was dead. Covered in blood.
Bent the fork tubes on his bike

Several decades ago I worked at a remote mine in Northern BC where the only road to run on was the forest access road into the mine.  There were a lot of black bears in that area, and I was nervous about running on that road in case I ran into a bear.  One of the other employees advised me to carry an air horn.  "When they hear the horn they'll run like hell" he said.  I followed his advice and sure enough, one day I saw a black bear about 100 yds in front of me munching away on some clover.  I pulled out the air horn and gave it a blast.  The bear immediately stood up on his hind legs to get a better look at me.  Bears don't have great vision.  He didn't seem too concerned so I gave another blast on the horn and this time he decided to run.....straight at me!

This is just a gentle reminder that if you put a whistle on your bike you may not get the result you intended!

There seems to be more positive reviews than negative reviews by a high percentage on every place that sell them. I chalk it up to bad luck...

I've never struck a moose or deer while driving.  One summer while working in northern Ontario I saw three vehicles that struck moose.  In all three cases the top of the car was peeled back like the lid on a sardine tin.  All three were fatals.  On had his head removed from his body.

In the summer of 1978 I was riding my Z1, along Hwy 17, north of Superior when I saw three moose on the side of the road.  They crossed from one side to the other as I approached, and I gave no further thought to them, but just as I was approaching the point where they crossed a young bull decided to re-cross the road right in front of me.  I almost hit him, but managed to get out of his way just in time.
