KZ400 Rear sprocket hub

Question.  '77 KZ400 Deluxe.
I came across this while replacing bearings, seals, O-ring etc.   Is there supposed to be a groove where the black ring is?  This is where the o-ring sits from the hub.  It doesn't seem too deep.  Since it doesn't spin I can't imagine how it would wear a groove? Thanks in advance!

This is what should be in there (no "O" rings)

Wrong side, turn it around. The o-ring rides on the area with the picture.

All the parts lists I can find do not show an o-ring located on the interior of coupling a grease seal on the exterior of it and a bearing Here is one from a paper parts list

Did not mean to indicate an o-ring was not on your machine. Rather that I can not find an parts list that shows one. Could be my lack of searching skills.

The o-ring is fit on the rear wheel hub and acts like a dust seal to the wheel bearing.

Yes, I know.  I even posted a picture of it where it sits/rides on.  In the original post. My question is there supposed to be a groove where it sits/rides.  Not where it’s installed on the main hub but where it rides in the damper section.

Ah, okay. So a worn out wheel/sprocket hub bearing or some weak rubber damper elements on hard (de-)acceleration can create a relative woobling movement. All this could made this wear imprint on the sprocket hub....

Ok, so I’m to understand that there is not supposed to be a groove?  Supposed to be smooth and flat?
