KZ1000 A3A MarkII front brakes
21 Jun 2024 09:09
Front brake conundrum. Trying to keep my MK2 front looking close to stock and have badly worn rotors. Replacement OEM rotors are nonexistent with aftermarket prohibitively priced. I can source a KZ750E (1980) model 19-inch front wheel with rotors on e-bay that has similar looks to the stock MK2. Rotor diameter is 226mm vs MK2 250mm; so that will require caliper mounting adjustment. Wondering if anyone has experience and or come up with a solution/alternative? Width of the wheel assembly for the MK2 from outside L-rotor surface to outside R-rotor surface is 125mm (4.92 inches). Don't know what the KZ750E width is. Anyone have the measurements? Much thanks in advance!!

I would guess the rotors would be the same size for any big bike (1000 cc) with dual rotors. Are you aware the rotors on a dual rotor bike are thinner than on a single rotor bike?
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

If you need the 41080-1022, Partilla says they ship in 3-4 days. Maybe they lie. Could be worth a call.

Are these close enough? Likely much cheaper than oem.

Several choices here, just be absolutely sure that the ones you look at are in fact for the1979 - 80 MKll, GPz, et cetera

I'm aware of the different thicknesses. Was looking for the total width for rotors, outer side to outer side when mounted on the wheel. Trying to determine if I could use a 750E front wheel with current MK2 calipers. I understand there will be some engineering involved. If nothing else, I will likely use outer 750E fork tubes and calipers along with the 750E front wheel. Wheel is the same size so ride geometry shouldn't be compromised - and end up with better brakes, albeit not totally stock looking.
Thank you for the feedback!

Re: KZ1000 A3A MarkII front brakes
21 Jun 2024 16:15Looked at these. Hadn't checked out Japan webike. Looks like their prices may be a bit more than I'm willing to spend. Although, they do have some pretty cool stuff! Trying to keep the front end parts cost within my budget. (I know....there is no such thing as a "Budget" where old motorcycle restorations are involved....)If you need the 41080-1022, Partilla says they ship in 3-4 days. Maybe they lie. Re: KZ1000 A3A MarkII front brakes
22 Jun 2024 09:05
Looking at the part number for the front rotors for the KZ1000 A3 MarkII, the Partzilla diagrams say it is 41080-1022.
Partzilla shows this part was used on the '79 and '80 K1000A (MK2), KZ1000B (LTD), KZ1000C (police), KZ1000D3 ('80 Z1R), and KZ1000G1 ('80 classic). It was also used on the 1980 KZ650-E1, F1, and KZ750-G1.
Put that number into Ebay, and you get many hits.
This one is $63: ebay.com/itm/265391659725
This one is $30: ebay.com/itm/333610351246
This one is $35: ebay.com/itm/402772513561
The original rotors for you bike are not that rare, they came on all the KZ1000 models for '79 and '80. Swapping the forks, wheel, brakes, and rotors from a 750 is going to cost you a lot more money and time than just waiting a little while for a decent set of the correct 41080-1022 part to show up on ebay.

Re: KZ1000 A3A MarkII front brakes
22 Jun 2024 10:29Unless you have a 750 donor bike already on hand, those rotors are bound to be cheaper and MUCH easier.I'm aware of the different thicknesses. Was looking for the total width for rotors, outer side to outer side when mounted on the wheel. Trying to determine if I could use a 750E front wheel with current MK2 calipers. I agree with DOHC that part number was used on the bikes he indicated. I the past I pulled down from the Kawasaki site when it listed what bikes/models a part # was used on. This is what was shown for the KZ650 E1 and F1.

The comment about 8 vs 9 rivets is interesting. It looks like the second eBay link I posted is probably not correct for the kz1000 (only 8 rivets), but the first and third links look like they are probably correct.
