brake return spring install?

Before I send the frame off to the powder coaters I decided to make a trial run at installing the brake pedal return spring.  So how do you install that spring. The Z1900 springs are easy but this one I'm not sure about. Here are a few photos on what I have. I tried to place the rear hook on the frame first and then tried to pull the hook under the pedal then the pedal hook first and then the frame hook. Cant figure it out without scratching everything up. 

Think I have a plan. I can hold the frame side with my spring puller and as I turn the pedal clockwise to clear the lever that activates the MC rod I can push push the lever home and then release the spring puller. A bit scary. There is a lot of tension on that pspring
