Am I crushing my steering bearings . 79 kz400 was created by ckahleer
The service manual says tighten the steering stem lock nut to 19.5 - 24ft-lbs. Is this correct? I feel I'm putting way to much pressure on the bearings.
I worked on a nx125 steering stem last month and the Honda manual recommended 1.5ft-lbs.

The KZ has a "ball and race" bearing whereas I suspect the Honda used "tapered roller" bearings. Stick to the Manual and refer to the "Note" ref provisional tightness
