Hi,

Has anyone ever changed this seal?
if you did how to change it so that it doesn't breake?
Can't find a catalogue number only for the hole cylinder set.

Gentlemen, you had my curiosity… but now you have my attention!

I think it's the same seal used on larger Kawasakis. Get a seal puller to remove the old seal. If it resists then apply a bit of heat with a propane torch.

There is a driver to install the new one. I usually grease the new one up a bit to make it slip into location.

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

The spacer circled in the pic isn't a seal. I think it acts as a bushing. Mine are a white plastic.
AFAIK, replacements aren't available separately, but are part of the fork cylinder assembly.

It’s a fork damper piston ring. Z-Power sells them. Couldn’t find a listing for the 650.

Your original ones are phenolic material. Very brittle. If you must remove them EXTREME caution and patience needed. DO NOT over expand them to get them off. THEY WILL BREAK!!!

Is there a way to determine the wear factor? I wouldn't bother changing it if it is still in the wear factor range.
I assume that it should have larger OD than the metal OD. How much are we talking about?

Here it is mentioned part number 4, but no mention of testing it. I’d suggest contacting a company like Sonic that deals with forks. They might have an answer.

If you are going to the trouble of disassembling the forks to a point where you could measure the seal, does it not make sense to just replace them and be done with it?
