Making a mk2 from a Ltd or kz1000 was created by Mtl1000
has anyone made a mk2 clone , I’ve been on the we bike Japan site and they sell the frame tabs for the side covers and also a part to put mk2 tail section . I understand the tank fits without any mods. Can’t afford the real thing and considering doing this . Has anyone else ?

Don't know how fancy you want to get on hanging the MK.II tail section on a "A" or "B" model frame. If you want to duplicate the stock mounting for the tail section and tail light. This won't help you at all. Now if you just want to hang the MK.II tail and tail light here are some photos on how I did my setup. My rear bodywork is angled upward because my frame has been reworked to have seven inches of rear wheel travel. And when this bike was built back in 1979 the oil cooler was mounted on the tail section. I went for the lightest way possible to hang the MK.II tail section and tail light. I hope this helps you.

Thank you for your pics , your bike is absolutely stunning And it’s what I’d like mine to look like . I’m impressed . I have a 1980 Ltd with an 18 inch wheel from a z1r . I want my bike to also have the mags painted gold , I follow tons of instagram pages of people in Japan with the mk2 , I think it’s one of the most beautiful models ever . That’s my bike now and your surely an inspiration .

To get a near as possible MK2 look a like bike your engine cyl. head and valve cover is an unique identifier feature.

Funny enough I’m in the middle of doing the same, I using the z1000st as my starting point and iv done a chain conversation. A fella over here on Z1owners forum built a replica from a Z1 classic, though he was pushed for more photos this is all we got, you are half way there all ready with the motor.
it might end up cheaper to use the Shaft bodywork as Mk2 parts are through the roof right now but the tank is a bit chunkier but on the plus side has a fuel sender and is a larger tank, Mk2 seat from PMC on Webike though I’m not sure if it will need modification for yours but mine did. I have my St as far as the frame right now so if you need any photos or measurements of the tail section just ask.

Dr Gamma that wormgear/sprocket cover is about the coolest modification of an original part I have ever seen, genius.

It took me over a year to get the whole bike dialed in handling-wise. The bike changed from week to week. Started to run out of brakes so the fancy plasma coated aluminum rotors were replaced with a set of 13 inch Kosman rotors with Lockheed calipers. Then the reworked stock forks started flexing. Those forks then were replaced with a set of Yoshimura/ Kayaba road race forks. It went on and on till I parked the bike. The bike was raced one weekend. And the next weekend I would put all the lights and charging system back on the bike and ride it on the street!!! In race trim the bike weight was 431 pounds. 442 pounds in street trim!!! A 442 pound 1000 MK.II with 118 to 136 rear wheel horsepower depending on what motor was in it made a hell of a streetbike!!!!
You can read the whole story on how I put this bike back together after it sitting in boxes for like 30 years. Look under "PROJECTS" for the title BETTER THAN NOTHING etc, etc.

Thanks!!! I made that cover many years before people started making those fancy looking sprocket covers. Its been 43 years now since I built my MK.II Superbike. It was built as a Superbike road racer that could be ridden on the street!!!! It has the bare minimal to make it "street legal" Headlight, tail light, brake light, and a mirror.
