'82 J2 - need front master cylinder

23 Aug 2022 11:03
#872700
Hi all,

My master is pretty bad, the fluid is all crystallized, I need to replace it.  I can't find an OEM master anywhere, except for some stuff on eBay which mostly looks super-sketchy.  Anybody got a line on a decent replacement or an OEM piece?  I'd ask for NOS, but I'd probably have to give up an organ or two.

TIA!

Any twin disc 5/8ths master will do the job.  Remember the brake light switch is built in to the mc on J's.

Z1000J2 somewhat modified!

Is the front master specific to the J, or can I use stuff from a police model?  I'm sure there are some good generic pieces out there, but I'm seeing stuff on eBay from companies I've never heard of that I wouldn't put on a scooter.  Plus, I might need to replace the calipers if the pistons are trash (haven't looked yet), and I'd like to do it all in one deal with OEM if it's possible.
