Hi,
I found this picture of ZL900 and it looks like it's sporting a Metzeler ME880 Marathon 200/70B-15 82H rear tire.
If I'm not mistaken ZL900 has a 4 inch wide rear rim. Is that even possible, to put such a tire on the original rim?
Or is this just for show and bike's not really safe to ride?
I'd appreciate your thoughts on the matter.
Best,

Katz

I suspect it's more "trailer queen" than "mean machine". I believe 160 is about the limit for a 4 inch rim. With that much sidewall I would expect it to "weave" like a Persian rug maker around any kind of a curve

The rim could have been widened, but it still would not handle well and the extra weight would be more difficult for the suspension to control over less than perfect surfaces.

I had Sandy Kosman do such a job years ago. He turned a 3.5" x 16" wheel into a 6 x 16 wheel for me in the 90s maybe??

Is the ZL900 rim 15"?  If so it looks like a 170/80B15 might fit on a 4" wide wheel.

My dad's drag bike has a widened cast aluminum wheel. It started as a 2.15" x 18 Lester mag and is now about 5" wide. I think two other wheels were cut up for parts to be welded to the Lester, but it's certainly possible to do.
